Jenny Wood was the 2014 winner of the Heriot-Watt Principal’s Public Engagement Prize in the PhD category. She was awarded the prize on the basis of her many public performances, including a number of stand-up comedy performances on her research subject: the value of children’s engagement in the planning process.
The Principal’s Public Engagement Prize is awarded annually to academics, early career staff and PhD students. The awards, now in their fourth year, were set up by Professor Steve Chapman to recognise an individual or team’s ability to reach new public audiences not already engaged with research.
