Ending migrant destitution in Scotland

Jen Ang, Director of Lawmanity and Professor in Practice at the Glasgow Open Justice Centre, University of Glasgow, School of Law, will explain the legal frameworks that create “destitution by design” for migrants under the UK Government’s longstanding “hostile environment” immigration policy – and, drawing on the Ending Destitution in Scotland legal briefing commissioned by I-SPHERE and the Joseph Rowntree Foundation, will outline some practical steps that local authorities and the Scottish Government can take to mitigate the harmful impacts of those policies, both immediately and in the longer term.
